Master of Arts in History

 
UNI’s new fully online Master of Arts (MA) in History program prepares students for diverse careers including teaching (K-12 public and private schools), archivists, curators, museum work, archival positions, management occupations, legal careers, business and financial positions, and many other professions. The online format is designed with flexibility and accessibility in mind, with coursework to fit the schedules of both full-time students and working professionals. This is especially true for the large number of working teachers who need a flexible option for continuing education and upskilling. Required coursework allows students to acquire research and investigative skills that will encourage the thoughtful study of history and its dissemination. Students complete the program through a series of online seminars and the creation of a professional portfolio of work.

For high school teachers, completion of UNI's MA in History meets the normal qualifications required to teach concurrent enrollment program (CEP) classes in history at high schools for community college credit, which generally requires an MA and 18 credits of graduate level courses in history.

How to apply

Students interested in applying for the Master of Arts program should need to have met the following criteria:

  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 
  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is NOT required
