Graduate Assistantships and Tuition Scholarships

2024-25 Opportunities

Graduate Assistantships, General Terms of Employment:

  • Per the current UNI's approved academic calendar, the Fall 2024 Graduate Assistantship contract starts 8/26/2024 and ends 12/20/2024. 
  • The Spring 2025 appointment starts 1/21/2025 and ends 5/16/2025.

Compensation:

  • The 20-hours-per-week GA stipend is a flat amount (equal for all programs) of $6,000. The half-time GA rate will be $3,000 for 10 hours per week.
  • Graduate Assistants and their spouses may qualify for in-state tuition.
  • Graduate Assistants may receive University holidays and do not work during the interims between semesters.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Offering writing support
  • Providing tech support during Zoom lectures and remote events
  • Assisting undergraduate students
  • Assisting with research

General Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNI's residential graduate program  
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. First semester graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00
  • Have an official transcript on file in the Office of Admissions
  • Be regularly admitted without provisions to degree status in a graduate degree program
  • Must meet UNI's HRS employment eligibility

Tuition Scholarships

Amount

  • The full tuition scholarship amount will be the value of the official tuition amount approved by the Iowa Board of Regents, currently these amounts are $5,015.00. A half tuition scholarship is $2,507.50 and a quarter scholarship equals $1,253.75.
