Youth Work in Religious Setting Certificate

We live in an increasingly global world, so knowing something about religion can help any student who will work with diverse populations or handle sensitive issues affecting families. 

The Youth Development in Religious Settings Certificate prepares students for work with youth in a variety of religious organizations and contexts, including youth work and youth ministry in congregations, residential camping and parachurch organizations. Courses included in the certificate focus on helping students develop skills in leadership, communication and problem-solving – skills crucial for effective engagement with youth.

In addition to coursework, students pursuing the certificate should consider co-curricular experiences as part of their education, including part-time and summer jobs, internships and practicums, especially those students who desire positions in a specific denomination or tradition.

This interdisciplinary program is offered jointly by Ethics, Philosophy & Religious Studies and Recreation, Tourism & Nonprofit Leadership.
