Department of Kinesiology & Athletic Training
A foundation for a future in health and sports
Welcome to the new Department of Kinesiology & Athletic Training, offering students a pathway to careers focused on health and sports!
Lay the foundation for a future in health professions like athletic training, physical therapy and occupational therapy, or prepare to be a teacher from the most established physical education teaching program in the state of Iowa. Compliment your major with a variety of minor options including coaching, health education, sport administration, strength & conditioning, and athletic training & rehabilitation studies.
Above all, learn from a committed core of faculty, instructors and professionals who will become your greatest champions.
What you learn in class is enhanced by your experiences in the field, labs and research opportunities provided by our programs. You’ll have plenty of opportunities, with strength and conditioning facilities, state-of-the-art laboratories, a hydrotherapy room and UNI’s only cadaver lab. With UNI’s Division I college sport teams and community partnerships with local clinics, high schools and colleges, options abound for practical, hands-on learning.
Helping Students Succeed
Helping students realize their potential means everything to the faculty, instructors and professionals within our department. This is especially true for Prof. Ter Moriarty. He combines an in-depth interest in exercise physiology with a passionate focus on helping students in the classroom, as partners in undergraduate research and through hands-on opportunities like conducting performance evaluations.
“At UNI I’ve learned how to be with other people and treat them with respect, kindness and motivation. UNI has provided opportunities that have changed my level of communication and comfort. I know when my time to graduate comes I'll be more than ready for my career and life itself.”
