"I took an Intro to Sociology course like many of my peers and fell in love with the field of study. Every class I took after that reinforced my passion for the field and I have been equipped with the tools to address a lot of the issues in our society today. I can’t wait to apply those skills in the real world."
Christian Kreger
"I am constantly using the research skills I acquired while majoring in sociology! I can quickly and effectively research any issue that may arise. Sociology also helped me grow my critical thinking skills by helping me problem-solve and promptly identify solutions or resources needed to create them."
Morgan Hoeft
"Sociology is applicable to all professions because you are able to understand why people are the way they are. Some skills I developed and currently use today include communication, research, writing, public speaking, and problem solving.”
Angela Perez
"For those who are considering a Sociology major, do it! Even as a minor, I feel Sociology is such an important topic to learn about and discuss. It can encourage open mindedness and education on topics that may be difficult to discuss. Although it can be broad, it can take you into so many other courses, interests, and topics that may help you in the future when looking for jobs or higher education. It is also quite easy to find community and groups within this major and the professors are great sources for support!"
Arwen Hansen
"I first became interested in sociology when taking an intro course in high school. Until that point, I was unsure of what major I would choose. All I did know was that I wanted to help people and make a difference in my community. I took that introductory sociology class and a light bulb turned on. I realized that to make an impact in my community, I must understand the larger society as a whole. My desire to make a difference led me to sociology."
Lacey J. Ritter
"Completing my sociology major at UNI – and receiving wonderful mentoring from the faculty – set me up directly for my career path. During my time at UNI, I was able to serve as a teaching assistant, conduct and present scholarly research, and write my undergraduate honors thesis. These skills, along with the courses and mentoring of faculty, allowed me a smooth transition into graduate school and, eventually, into my position."
Ethan Canady
"I took intro to sociology as a freshman, and I was fascinated to learn about social inequalities and how it systematically impacts families in the United States. When I started taking classes that catered to the social inequalities in the criminal justice system, it built a fire in my gut to be a promoter of change and to advocate for clients I work with."
Austin McGuire
"Both my Criminology and Sociology majors helped prepare my for my current role by providing both abstract and hands-on learning in the classroom that directly related to the fields of juvenile justice and community probation. I really enjoy being able to work with juveniles and their families."
Raegan Jean Christianson

I have thoroughly enjoyed my education and how it has inspired me to want a career where I can help to improve the world. Sociology classes have always had content that is really interesting and relevant to me."
