School of Community & Geographic Innovation
Understanding people, places and the connections that shape our world
Communities and environments are constantly changing — and understanding those changes requires new ways of thinking. The School of Community & Geographic Innovation uses the scientific study of people and places to bring together sociological and geographic perspectives in order to explore how people, places and societies interact.
Our students and faculty use cutting-edge technologies, research methods and community partnerships to address real-world challenges. From geographic information systems (GIS) and environmental sustainability to social change and community development, we prepare students to think critically, engage locally and globally, and make a meaningful impact in the communities they serve.
As a community-engaged school, we emphasize service learning and community-based partnerships that connect classroom learning with real-world problems. Through hands-on learning and applied experience, students gain the skills needed to understand complex societal challenges and help create solutions that strengthen communities and improve lives.
