B.A. in Public Administration: Community and Regional Development – University of Northern Iowa (2017)
What do you do in your current position?
As a community planner, I do a variety of planning activities for a six-county region. A majority of my time is spent applying for and administering Community Development Block Grants (CDBGs) for a variety of programs including housing rehabilitation, downtown revitalization, and the installation or updates to water/sewer systems for the cities in my six-county region. What I enjoy most about my position is being able to improve the overall quality of my cities and the quality of living for the people residing in my cities.
How did your major help prepare you?
My major prepared me for my current role by covering how local government operates as well as the role block grants play in community development. My major also prepared me by exposing me to the influence political leaders have on the public planning process and how block grant monies are regulated.
Most memorable part of your studies?
My favorite part of my major was the fact that it was a small, tight-knit program. I had just about everybody in my program in the same classes and was able to grow with them throughout my time in the program.
What advice would you give future panthers?
Build relationships with your professors and classmates and get involved in any major-related clubs or activities on campus.
