BA in Political Communication, Minor: Journalism, 2011
MA in International Studies, University of Iowa
Why did you choose to attend UNI?
Both my older sisters went to UNI so I had the chance to visit campus several times. I really loved the size and the programs UNI offered fit my interests.
Why did you choose your major?
It all started with a very good advisor my freshman year, David Marchesani. He helped me lead me to Political Communication, which brought my two interests of politics and communication together.
What were some of your favorite classes?
Terrorism with Professor Dennis Damon and Iowa Politics with Professor Chris Larimer
What do you do in your current position? What do you enjoy about it?
I recruit prospective students to USU Tooele. I also organize all outreach activities and efforts in the community. I really enjoy getting to help students find their major and helping them through the admissions process. Seeing students get excited about starting college is also pretty awesome to experience.
How did your major help prepare you for your current role? What skills are you still using today?
I definitely use all communication styles every single day in my role. I also learned how to critically think in the Political Communication program. This helps me work through issues students can face through the admissions process and in helping them think about what program to pursue in college.
What is a memorable part of your studies or participation within your major?
I have too many experiences and memories to list them all. I think the most memorable part of being at UNI was being elected Vice President of the Student Body. I had so much fun and was able to network and meet so many people in my role. I was able to meet First Lady Michelle Obama when she spoke at our graduation ceremony!
What advice would you give to students currently interested in the same major and/or going into your career field?
Political Communication is a great major that will allow you to take a wide variety of classes based on your interests. Getting involved on campus is a great way to gain knowledge and experience that can translate to your future career.
