What do you do in your current position?
As a City Administrator, I oversee the operations of the City and implement the goals and initiatives set by City Council. I get to work with several departments and have a chance to serve the public everyday. One of my favorite parts of the job is bringing in new ideas and finding a way to make big city ideas work in a small town.

How did your major help prepare you?
My major in public administration prepared me for working as a public servant. Several of the classes focused on how to manage an organization that had to respond to the public and work on community needs. I had a variety of classes that touched on important areas like planning, finance and administration. My major offered a variety of courses, so I was able to choose ones that I was interested in that would help me determine my future in local government.

Most memorable part of your studies?
I had so many opportunities with my major to get involved. I remember talking to farmers about city expansion, all the way to local voting attitudes by talking to voters at the polls.

One of the best connections I made at UNI was getting to know Professor Chris Larimer. He helped secure an internship and connected me with alumni from KU. Working with him on research and taking an independent study were some of my favorite academic memories. Professor Larimer was a great help during my time at UNI.

What advice would you give future panthers?
Go out and talk to City Managers/Administrators. Get to know the profession you are working toward. Local government needs strong leaders and is ready for the next generation.

My time at UNI will always be a favorite memory of mine. I am so happy that I chose UNI and my major in Public Administration
