How did you become interested in the nursing major at UNI (and the nursing profession at large)?
I knew that I wanted to do something in health care for a while and landed on nursing because of how diverse it is. Once you are a registered nurse there are so many routes you can take as well as many continuing education opportunities. I became interested in the UNI nursing program when I heard it would be new and innovative. I was excited to hopefully be a part of an inaugural program. I have been very lucky to have such a personable experience with all my professors and fellow students.
What have been some of your favorite aspects of the program so far?
Some of my favorite aspects so far are how hands-on the program is. From day one we have been getting to use our lectured skills hands-on. I also love how much the professors care about every one of their students and truly want everyone to be successful.
Are you involved in any other activities outside of the classroom?
I just recently became a student ambassador for the nursing program (SABAR). I am also currently a CNA back home at the Summit of Bettendorf
Any faculty you’d like to highlight who have helped you along your way?
I would like to highlight Professor Natalie Nedza, throughout this whole process she has been nothing but positive while continuing to care about and push her students to do great things. She also cares deeply for all her students.
What are your future career aspirations in nursing?
My future aspirations are too achieve my BSN and work as a nurse in a specialty I love and hopefully end up going back to school to get my masters and work as a Nurse practitioner. I am also interested in becoming a travel nurse as well.
What advice would you give to students who are considering this major?
Advice I would give to anyone considering this major is to work as a CNA before applying to nursing school. Being a CNA really solidified nursing for me.
