How did you become interested in the nursing major at UNI (and nursing profession at large)?
I became interested in the nursing program right after seeing information regarding the new program. I was excited to see a program like this come to UNI, as it was super accessible, rather than having to do a program elsewhere. I have always been interested in nursing because my mom is a nurse. She has inspired me to go into a field that helps and benefits others.
What have been some of your favorite aspects of the program so far?
My favorite aspects of the program so far are the hands-on learning and variety of opportunities we are offered. I enjoy working hands-on with other students and the high fidelity manikins. There are many opportunities to get out into the community and showcase and talk about our current nursing experiences. The manikins are especially cool, as they have many features and can function like humans, allowing practice to be real life.
Are you involved in any other activities outside of the classroom?
I am on the cross country and track and field team here at UNI. I have experience with volunteer work within healthcare facilities.
Any faculty you’d like to highlight who have helped you along your way?
I would like to thank Professor Holman and Professor Nedza for starting my nursing journey. My first semester of nursing school has been great, and I can’t wait to see what the future semesters bring.
What are your future career aspirations in nursing?
I would possibly like to be a nurse practitioner in the future.
What advice would you give to students who are considering this major?
Nursing is a very rewarding career. Even though the work to complete this major may be difficult and taxing, the experiences that come during and after will outweigh this.
