Pre-Nursing Advising Policies

Students intending to enroll in the University of Northern Iowa’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program will be admitted to UNI as a Pre-Nursing student. Pre-Nursing students work with an academic advisor to complete all prerequisite coursework required to be admitted to the BSN program. Academic advisors help students select courses, connect students to academic support resources, explore involvement opportunities, and provide support with academic concerns.

Advising Expectations

Students are responsible for initiating advisement meetings each semester and as needed. When communicating with their advisor, the student’s UNI email address must be used throughout the program. Students are also responsible for checking their email regularly for updates and instructions from their advisor.

Prerequisite Coursework

Pre-Nursing students must complete all admission prerequisite requirements to be fully admitted into the program. In addition, students are all responsible for meeting all university graduation requirements, including UNIFI (UNI’s general education program). All degree requirements are outlined in the university catalog and are listed on a student’s advisement report.
