How many years have you been working at UNI?
Five

Briefly describe your educational background.
Doctorate in adapted physical education with cognates in research and pedagogy.

Briefly describe your career background.
I have worked with individuals with disabilities in a variety of capacities and settings for most of my career.

Why did you choose this career path?
I enjoy seeing people explore what is possible.

What's your favorite part about UNI?
The small town feel.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
Teaching the skill of bicycle riding to hundreds of people with disabilities.

If involved in research, what is your area(s) of interest, and what drove your interest in this area?
My research interest is in cycling skill acquisition for people with disabilities. I have always enjoyed the freedom and thrill of riding a bike and wanted to introduce this skill to others. I am currently reviewing data from over 700 children with Down syndrome who have participated in adapted bicycle camps to see what the most opportune age is for learning this skill.

What does being student-focused mean to you?
It means getting to know your students. In this way, I know how to set them up for success in my classroom and beyond.

We talk about helping students realize or even exceed their expectations and potential. What does it mean to you to be part of that process and see the outcome?
It is exhilarating! It is so rewarding to see my former students go on to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

What do you hope students learn from you?
That everyone is capable of succeeding in your classroom.

What advice do you have for prospective/current students to make the most of their time at UNI?
Volunteer to get additional hands-on experience and find your passion.
