Previous Experience/Background

I bring more than 25 years of experience in education, including:

• 17 years as a TK–12 public school teacher
• 6 years as a public school administrator
• 2 years as an Assistant Professor in Elementary Teacher Education

What brought you to UNI?

The outstanding reputation of UNI's teacher education program and the opportunity to return to Iowa made this an easy decision. I am excited to contribute to a university with such a strong tradition of preparing exceptional educators.

What are your interests?

Service has always been an important part of my professional life. Since beginning my teaching career, I have been actively involved in state professional organizations, including NCAHPERD, GAHPERD, and most recently the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (CAHPERD). My leadership roles have included:

• President (2012–2013)
• President-Elect and Past President (2011–2013)
• Vice President, Boys' and Men's Athletics (2010–2011)
• Vice President-Elect, Boys' and Men's Athletics (2009–2010)
• Middle School Section Chair (2006–2008)

Outside of academia, I'm a lifelong rugby enthusiast. I played prop for more than a decade and have been fortunate to serve the sport in many roles, including:

• Founder and Head Coach of the Western Carolina University Women's Rugby Team
• Head Coach of the Western Carolina University Men's Rugby Club, leading the team to a Division III National Championship
• South Women's All-Star Coach
• Manager of the USA Rugby Women's U23 National Team
• Certified C2 Rugby Referee for four years

When I'm not teaching or researching, you'll probably find me playing Pokémon GO, throwing a round of disc golf, hiking, kayaking, gaming, or collecting anything related to Yoda or the Hulk. (Yes, my favorite color is green!)

Anything else you'd like to share with your colleagues?

I believe the best ideas come from collaboration. I enjoy working with colleagues on educational research, sharing effective teaching practices, and finding innovative ways to improve teaching and learning. I'm always happy to connect, collaborate, and learn from others.
