Geography: 3+1
The Geography 3+1 pathway offers ambitious students a fast-track opportunity to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in just four years. By completing the B.A. in Geography through UNI’s structured Three-Year Pathway, students can finish their undergraduate degree in three years and then continue directly into the M.A. program with just one additional year of graduate study.
This option is ideal for motivated students who enter UNI with prior college credit through AP, dual enrollment, or other transfer coursework, as well as high-achieving students who are prepared for an accelerated academic pace. Students benefit from close faculty mentoring, a clearly defined plan of study, and the opportunity to save both time and tuition while advancing their academic and professional goals.
The 3+1 pathway is especially valuable for students interested in careers in urban planning, environmental management, GIS, community development, sustainability, and other geography-related fields where advanced training can provide a competitive advantage. Students must meet program eligibility requirements for the three-year undergraduate pathway and can transition to a traditional four-year bachelor’s timeline if needed.
