Dr. O’Gara identifies as a fatherhood and youth and family resilience scholar. Her research explores the factors and processes that foster youth and family well-being and resilience, aiming to shape community policies and practices that equip families with the skills and resources to overcome challenges and thrive. In her research, Dr. O'Gara draws on family and developmental theories and uses advanced quantitative and data science tools, as well as qualitative methodology. As a clinician, Dr. O’Gara has worked with individuals across the lifespan—from infancy to older adulthood—addressing concerns such as substance use, mental health disorders, and trauma. Her clinical expertise lies in empowering families to recognize their strengths and develop problem-solving skills that enable them to navigate life successfully. Drawing on her combined clinical and research experience, Dr. O’Gara prepares students to support families and individuals in achieving long-term well-being.
