Education
Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Sociology – University of Northern Iowa (2006)

What do you do in your current position?
I coordinate a grant funded probation supervision program that includes working with people on probation, probation officers, community agencies, judges and attorneys. I enjoy working with others to address challenges and helping those on probation make positive changes in their lives.

How did your major help prepare you?
Learning about the theories of criminality helps me understand why people make the choices they do. The criminology major also helped me learn speaking, listening, writing and de-escalation skills, which I use daily.

Most memorable part of your studies?
My favorite class at UNI was Correctional Treatment with Dr. Gorton. This class was challenging, opened my mind to different views of the world and gave me real life experience speaking with people involved in the criminal justice system.

What advice would you give future panthers?
I would tell anyone interested in criminology to keep their mind open about what career path they plan to take. I started school thinking I would be a police officer and eventually an investigator. After several classes, I knew I would work in corrections instead. There are many different jobs in the criminology field so explore as many as you can.
