Background:

Prior to UNI, I served as an Associate Professor, Department Chairperson of Psychology, Undergraduate Program Director of Behavior Analysis, and Clinical Director of the pro bono Behavior Analysis Clinic at Briar Cliff University. I also served as the Director of the Siouxland Research Center. I am a doctoral level Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D, 1-17-28591), and Licensed Behavior Analyst in Iowa (LBA, 095948).

Why UNI?

I am very excited to join the Psychology Department at UNI. The Department offers an excellent major and opportunities to conduct high-impact research. I am hoping to add to the Department by bringing an applied research skillset in Applied Behavior Analysis.

Interests:

Teaching: I enjoy teaching courses in Applied Behavior Analysis, Third-Generation Behavioral Therapies (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Behavioral Neuroscience, Research Methods and Statistics, Behavioral and Psychology Ethics, Health Psychology, and Introductory Psychology. Research: My research interests are in (1) The development of efficient and effective interventions to promote skill acquisition, (2) The role of covert verbal behavior in the acquisition of complex verbal repertoires, and (3) Identification and manipulation of parameters that affect delay discounting and impulsive decision making.

Clinical: I have spent the last decade working with young children with developmental disorders (e.g., autism). In this work, I focus on the acquisition of communication, social, academic, and independent skills. Recently, I have become interested in working with children who have developed severe medical phobias. Personal: In my spare time, I enjoy working out, doing projects around the house, and spending time with my wife and 2-year-old son.
