Why did you choose UNI?

The size was huge for me. It’s big enough where I still get the “college feel” and am meeting new people every day, but small enough where I am able to make relationships with my professors and classmates really easily.

What have you enjoyed the most about attending UNI?

The connections and friendships I have made. I have met some of my best friends here that I know I will keep for the rest of my life.

How did you become interested in your major?

Knowing I enjoyed it in high school and was good at it, I always had psychology in the back of my mind, but I was able to get connected with graduates from the psychology program at UNI early on and getting to hear their experiences and having only good things to say solidified my decision to go into psychology.

What have been some of your favorite aspects of the major?

The fact that there is so much you can do with psychology. With the major being so broad, I was able to learn about every little aspect of psychology and that was really cool to get to experience because it helped me decide what I really wanted to do with my life.

How have you been involved outside of the classroom?

I was able to study abroad in Greece over the summer of 2023 which was an amazing experience. UNI made it so easy for me to easily get applied for the program, make sure I got all the credits I needed to transfer back, and offer me scholarships so I didn’t have to worry about the finances.

I was also a part of UNIs Society for Human Resource Management which was a really cool opportunity for me to connect and network with HR professionals in the Cedar Valley and solidify my decision to go into HR.

What professors have been most influential through your time here at UNI?

Dr. Adam Butler and Dr. Mike Gasser made my time at UNI so much easier and enjoyable. Their classes helped me make the decision to go into HR and they were always on my side helping me with every question I had, whether it was classes, post-graduation plans, and so much more.

What are your post-graduation plans?

I plan on attending the University of Illinois in Urbana, IL to pursue my master’s degree in Human Resources and Industrial Relations.

UNI and the psychology department helped me find my passion for my future. I did not have any idea coming into college what I wanted to do with my life, but being here helped me realize that. I received the skills and knowledge to pursue these passions so now I feel much more comfortable and confident that when I leave here I will be successful in my future.

What advice would you give to students who are considering this major?

Do it! The program and professors care so much for your future and want to help you have the best college experience possible, inside and outside of the classroom. I truly think anyone who goes into psychology, whether they understand it or not coming into the program, will leave feeling very confident and happy in their future plans.
