Application Procedure

All application materials are now available on-line and described below. If you would like a paper copy of these materials or if you have any questions about the process or the program, contact Dr. Helen C. Harton, Coordinator of Graduate Studies.

Send the following items directly to:

  1. Official copies of transcripts from all colleges attended (must come directly from your previous institution)
  2. Official GRE scores (general test is required; subject test is optional; must come directly from ETS)
  3. Application fee of $50 (not necessary if undergraduate degree is from UNI; can be submitted online with the graduate application)
  4. Application for Admission to Graduate Study (can be filled out online; doesn’t need to be mailed)

  1. 3 letters of recommendation sent directly by the recommenders. Letters of recommendation should come from professors, supervisors, or other individuals familiar with your academic achievements and potential for graduate study. We recommend that at least two come from professors who know you well.
  2. Departmental application (MS Word or PDF format)
  3. Statement of Interests in Psychology (see departmental application for more information)
  4. If you want to be considered for financial aid, a scholarship application and an assistantship application.

International students must also complete an International Student Application Form. Other information (application, application fee, official transcripts, TOEFL/IELTS scores, GRE scores) should be sent directly to the International Studies office at:

The application deadline for full consideration of financial aid is February 1st. Offers of admission will begin in early February and continue on a rolling basis until early May. All applications completed by April 30 will be given full consideration, but early application is strongly encouraged.

Applications will not be reviewed until they are complete. Applications completed after the deadlines will be forwarded to the Graduate Admissions Committee, but admission of these applicants will be contingent upon availability of space in the program at that time. Graduate students are only accepted into the program for entry in the fall semester and on a full-time basis. The program takes two years to complete.

The M.A. program in psychology admits 8-12 students each year.
