What brought you to UNI?

As I was completing my undergraduate studies at Mount Mercy University, I began searching for an athletic training program that aligned with both my academic and personal goals. I was drawn to the University of Northern Iowa because of its small class sizes and the strong support offered by its professors. I was influenced by mentors around me who went through the program and shared their positive experiences with me. During my campus visit, I immediately felt welcomed by the athletic training faculty.

What did you enjoy most about attending UNI?

I enjoyed how close knit my athletic training cohort was. It was great to have a connection with my classmates and my professors.

How did you become interested in your program?

As I was searching for a school, my Athletic Trainer’s at the time shared their positive experiences with me that they had at the University of Northern Iowa. I looked up to my athletic trainers and valued their knowledge. I knew I would be going through a great program, because it shaped them unto the athletic trainers they are.

How have you been involved outside of the classroom?

The athletic training program offers a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom. We gain valuable hands-on experience through extensive clinical work, where our professors and preceptors actively support our continued learning. They not only reinforce the skills we've developed but also challenge us to apply them in real-world settings.

What professors have been most influential through your time here at UNI?

Tricia Schrage, Kelli Snyder, and Mark Hecimovich

Post-graduation plans?

I will be working as an Athletic Trainer at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.

How did UNI prepare you for your post-graduation plans?

UNI helped me gain experience in the real life setting of athletic training. The athletic training program allowed me to become confident in my skills and prepared me to use them on my own post-graduation.

What advice would you give to students currently looking into grad schools?

Talk to others and learn about their experiences. Familiarize yourself with the professors and the program and see if it aligns with your goals!
