Why did you choose UNI?

I chose UNI because it was the perfect size for me, not too big, not too small.

What have you enjoyed the most about attending UNI?

I have enjoyed getting to know so many amazing people and making new friends here at UNI.

How did you become interested in your major?

I decided to go into Criminology and Criminal Justice because I have always dreamt of becoming a police officer.

What have been some of your favorite aspects of the major?

My favorite part of the Criminology and Criminal Justice major is how broad it is. We talk about so many different facets of crime, there is always something to talk about.

How have you been involved outside of the classroom?

I had the privilege of being a Seasonal Patrol Officer for the Iowa DNR. This job gave me law enforcement experience and reaffirmed my dream of becoming a police officer. I was also part of the UNI fishing club, I met some of my friends through this club, the club trips were a lot of fun. I was also part of the UNI Track and Field team for my first couple years at UNI.

What professors have been most influential through your time here at UNI?

Jayme Renfro, Christopher Larimer, and Mark Howard.

What are your post-graduation plans?

I will be a Deputy Sheriff in Mahaska County.

How has UNI/your major helped prepare you for these plans?

Criminology and Criminal Justice has prepared me greatly for my future career.

What advice would you give to students who are considering this major?

Get involved and do not be afraid to talk to other people. Making connections can only benefit you.
