What brought you to UNI?

I have many family members and friends who are graduates of UNI or are currently enrolled. I also enjoyed the size of the University and all they have to offer.

How did you become interested in your major?

My grandma and aunt are social workers, and I love the variety of job opportunities the field offers.

What did you enjoy most about attending UNI?

I enjoyed playing Intermurals with friends and getting to meet so many amazing new people! The most influential person at UNI for me has been Professor Libby Fry in the social work department. Through her teaching, I was able to find a passion for all things social work. She opened my eyes to areas of the field I didn't realize were even possible, and she always encouraged me.

How have you been involved outside of the classroom?

I was involved with Intermurals, and am currently an intern at UNI's Panther Pantry, which has opened so many doors for me.

Post-graduation plans?

I plan on coming back to UNI for my MSW. While completing my MSW here, I have accepted a Graduate Assistantship position with the Panther Pantry.

What excites you about your plans?

I have loved my time here at UNI and in the Cedar Falls area, and I wasn't ready to be done with school yet or UNI. I am excited to further my social work education here at UNI alongside some of the friends and classmates I made in the social work program.

How did UNI prepare you for your post-graduation plans?

I have learned lots of great skills within my degree while at UNI that have prepared me for the MSW, but also set me up for success in my current position with the Panther Pantry. Being able to intern on campus, I have been able to make so many local connections that I am hoping to build off of in the years to come.

What advice would you give to high school seniors (and/or transfer students)?

I was a transfer student, and what helped me the most was going to the professor's office hours and asking all the questions, big or small. Talking in class was a great way for me to get out of my shell and to meet other students within my major. I would also say to any incoming students, get involved and take advantage of all the resources that UNI provides both academically and socially.
