Why did you choose UNI?

UNI gave me the opportunity of flexibility, I am a single mother that works a full time job and being able to continue my education online was a major plus for me.

How did you first become interested in your major, and what ultimately led you to pursue it?

When I started at UNI I was working as a Criminal Clerk in the Clerk of Courts office. I found a spark in an already existing interest and decided to pursue it further.

What aspects of your major have you found most engaging or meaningful?

The professors at UNI have been a huge part of my experience. When you take online classes it can become monotonous and dull but I found the opposite with the professors here. They make the online experience engaging and easy going.

Which professors, mentors or advisors were particularly influential during your time at UNI?

Dr. Roxann Ryan and Dr Gayle Rhineberger. Dr. Ryan’s Victimology course was eye opening and I retained so much useful information. Dr. Rhineberger has been my advisor as well as professor and she has helped me through my path from the start with knowledge and encouragement.

What do you plan to do with your degree?

I plan to continue working for the Judicial Branch of Iowa. I am currently working as the Courtroom Technology Support Technician.

What advice would you give to students who are considering this major?

Take the leap and go for it you won’t regret it!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I want to express my gratitude to be able to have been and continue to be a part of UNI. My time here although virtual has shaped me in more ways than one and I am forever grateful.
