Why did you choose UNI?
I chose UNI because of the University’s size. UNI is large enough to give students lots of opportunities through education or organizations, but it's still small enough that you can find your space and people.
What have you enjoyed the most about attending UNI?
I have enjoyed meeting some of my best friends here and making lifelong memories with them.
How did you become interested in your major at UNI?
Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Studies interested me because it focuses on orthopedic and clinical practices that other majors don’t expose undergraduate students to.
How have you been involved outside of the classroom?
Outside of the classroom, I have worked at the Cedar Valley Physical Therapy UNI clinic which has been an amazing experience getting to work with community members and student athletes.
What professors have been most influential through your time here at UNI?
Two professors that have been extremely influential during my time here are Dr. Kelli Snyder and Dr. Tricia Schrage in the Department of Kinesiology and Athletic Training. Both in the classroom and out, they both are so encouraging and supportive of their students. They are amazing teachers that keep their classes engaging and interactive.
What are your post-graduation plans?
After graduation, I will be attending Des Moines University in their Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
How has UNI/your major helped prepare you for these plans?
Getting clinical experience and having classes focusing on areas such as therapeutic interventions, orthopedic pathology, and gross anatomy is extremely beneficial before getting to PT school.
What advice would you give to students who are considering this major?
Get involved! There are so many resources available that can help prepare you for a graduate program! Whether you are thinking about doing athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or any other health related field, there are so many people that are there to help you succeed both here and set you up for success in your next educational journey!
