Marissa Mason
Previous Experience:
Before coming to UNI, I previously worked at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City where I served for three years in the Human Resources department, and four years in the Concurrent Enrollment department. I also have prior experience in the fields of marketing, insurance, and real estate. Working in higher education has been the highlight of my career so far, and I truly feel I have found my calling in public service.
What brought you to UNI?
My husband Kevin accepted a teaching position in the History department beginning this academic year, and we have relocated to the Cedar Valley from Mason City for this opportunity. I knew I wanted to continue my career in higher education and am grateful to have found a place at UNI as well.
What are your interests?
Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, yoga, reading, cooking/baking, and spending time in nature. I also find fulfillment in volunteering my time with various boards and service organizations within the community, and I currently serve as a Master Gardener in Black Hawk County. As a gardener, I particularly enjoy working with houseplants, and have a collection of about 75 plants between my home and office collections. Additionally, Kevin and I have a very vigilant Scottish Terrier (Arthur) who demands plenty of our time and attention and keeps us on our toes.
Anything else you'd like to share?
As a new resident of the Cedar Valley, I’d be happy to accept recommendations for local book clubs, dog-friendly activities, yoga studios, or community volunteer opportunities.
