Philip Mauceri served as dean of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences from 2009 to 2012 after nearly two decades as a member of the University of Northern Iowa faculty. A political scientist, Mauceri joined UNI in 1994 and later served as acting head and head of the Department of Political Science before becoming dean. Throughout his leadership, he championed the value of a high-quality undergraduate education, emphasizing academic excellence, engaged learning and the enduring importance of the liberal arts. His tenure also included significant milestones for the college, including the reopening of the newly renovated Sabin Hall and the establishment of the School of Applied Human Sciences. In 2012, Mauceri left UNI to become provost and vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York at New Paltz, continuing his career in higher education leadership. His commitment to students, faculty and academic excellence helped strengthen the college during a period of growth and transformation.
