Robert E. Morin served as dean from 1972 to 1985, providing steady leadership during one of the most significant periods in the college's history. He oversaw the transition from the College of Business and Behavioral Sciences to the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences in 1981, helping shape the identity of the college that continues today. A psychologist, Morin joined the University of Northern Iowa after serving on the faculty at Kent State University. During his tenure, he helped establish the college's academic foundation, strengthened faculty development and supported the growth of interdisciplinary programs during a period of significant change across higher education. He also played an active role in university leadership and governance. His tenure concluded in 1985 when the university announced he would leave the deanship, a decision that prompted public expressions of support from many faculty and students. As the college's first dean, Morin helped shape its early identity and laid the groundwork for the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences as it continues today.
