Why did you choose UNI?

I chose UNI because I liked the size of it. I also had a friend who attended UNI and she really liked it.

What have you enjoyed the most about attending UNI?

I have really enjoyed the friendships I have made through UNI. I also like the class sizes. They’re not too large nor too small.

How did you become interested in your major?

I became interested in pursuing a degree in psychology because I took an intro to psych class in high school. I found it super interesting to learn about the brain, and how powerful it is mentally and even physically.

What have been some of your favorite aspects of the major?

Learning about how psychology can be applied to almost anything. I loved studying the brain and learning how different emotions can impact behavior and even physical health.

How have you been involved outside of the classroom?

I had an internship with Riverview Center. For those of you who don’t know what Riverview is — It’s a nonprofit organization that assists survivors of sexual assault. My experience was great! I worked with an amazing team, and got to experience what it was like working with individuals that have been impacted by sexual assault. My internship offered me experience in emotionally charged situations, which is great for me because I want to help people.

What professors have been most influential through your time here at UNI?

Dr. Hildebrandt, Dr. Gasser and Dr. Lefler

What are your post-graduation plans?

I’m not entirely sure. I’m thinking about potentially moving to Des Moines and working at a non-profit, helping people. Grad school is not entirely off the table, so I suppose we shall see.

How has UNI/your major helped prepare you for these plans?

I feel as though I am prepared for these plans because I have learned a lot about how the brain works, and why some react the way they do in certain situations. I’ve also learned why some people are the way they are due to mental illness.

What advice would you give to students who are considering this major?

Be curious, ask questions and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thanks UNI for being my home for the past four years and providing me with the tools for a bright future.
