Why did you choose UNI?

I chose UNI because I liked the layout of the campus and how quick everyone was to help me whenever I had a question about how I would make my career plans a reality.

What have you enjoyed the most about attending UNI?

The thing I have enjoyed the most about attending UNI is the people that I have met throughout my journey. This journey wasn’t an easy one, but the incredible people I met along the way helped a ton!

How did you become interested in your major?

I became interested in my major because it showed me that as long as I continued in this field, I would never stop learning.

What have been some of your favorite aspects of the major?

Some of my favorite aspects about being a psychology major is how versatile the degree is. I also love how it encourages us to learn the reasoning behind why people are the way they are and how that has in turn taught me more about myself.

How have you been involved outside of the classroom?

I wasn’t involved in as many campus organizations as I would have liked, but I have met people who are and they have nothing but good things to say about them. They are a great way to meet new people and give you a sense of community.

What professors have been most influential through your time here at UNI?

A few professors that have been the most influential through my time here at UNI include: Michael Gasser, Helen Harton, Kim MacLin, Nicholas Schwab, and Carolyn Hildebrandt

What are your post-graduation plans?

Immediately after graduation, I will continue my current job as an assistant teacher at the YMCA of Black Hawk County Early Learning Center. I plan to switch to a Caseworker job in the area within the next three months of graduating.

UNI has helped me prepare for these plans by teaching me what I may encounter in the field I am choosing to pursue a career in. Throughout my time at UNI, I have learned that the jobs I may have initially been interested in were not going to fulfill me in the future. With this new knowledge, I now know what I am and what I am not willing to do with my career.

What advice would you give to students who are considering this major?

Advice that I would give students who are considering this major is to not be afraid to ask for help. A lot of these courses aren’t for everyone and it’s better to seek help before getting too overwhelmed. Not including your professors, there are tutors who would love to assist you. The reward at the end will be worth all of your hard work!

Anything else you’d like to add?

Something else I would like to add for future students is to make sure you save time for work and fun.
