Teaching Interests

Dr. Fernando Herrera Calderón specializes in Modern Mexican history, political violence, student radicalism, memory, and human rights. He leads a summer study abroad class (HIST 3279) to Mexico, which fulfills the UNIFI Human Condition Global Category. During the trip, Professor Calderón shares the history of contemporary Mayan society in the state of Yucatán. He has taught the Senior Seminar: Fascism and Resistance in a Global Perspective, the UNIFI course Problems and Perspectives in Global History: History of Fascism and Anti-Fascist Resistance, and a Graduate Seminar on Political Violence and Memory in Latin America.

Research Interests

Professor Herrera Calderón’s research focus has been on the urban guerrilla experience in Mexico, 1964-1982.
