Teaching Interests

Dr. Barbara Cutter's teaching interests include: United States political, social and cultural history, environmental history, women’s history, and historical research and writing. She also has taught our Field Experience in public history class, helping students gain work experience through internships. 

Research Interests

Professor Cutter’s research specialties are United States history, cultural history, environmental history, women’s history and the history of outdoor recreation. Her current book project is titled: “In the ‘Alps of America’: American Mountaineering and National Identity: 1850-1996.” 

Professional Accomplishments

She is the author of a book, several articles and book chapters.  She also has served as a contributor to history documentaries and podcasts. She has been interviewed on her research in a variety of news outlets.
