Dr. Roberts teaches Environmental History, U. S. Popular Culture, History on Film, Labor History, Introduction to the Study of History, and American Civilization.
Research Interests
Professor Roberts is the author of two books on United States culture. His first book, American Alchemy: The California Gold Rush and Middle-Class Culture (2000), won awards for best work on the cultural history of the American West. His second book is Blackface Nation: Race, Reform, and Identity in American Popular Music, 1812-1925 (2017). He is currently working on a cultural history of hunting in the United States, tentatively titled Killing Bambi: Sport Hunting and American Popular Culture, 1890-1970.
