CSBS Kudos Fall 2019 NewsletterAs always, this summer and fall have been a busy time for CSBS faculty, staff and students. We are pleased to feature some of your many accomplishments in this fall 2019 edition of Kudos.

Over the summer, seven faculty members led students on five capstone study abroad experiences across Greece, London, Sweden, Uganda and Peru. In summer 2020, trips to Spain and Mexico will be added as well. We are incredibly grateful for the time, energy and commitment these faculty have shown to create engaging cultural experiences for our students.

In November, we held our second System of Support Conference, which took a hard look at where the Cedar Falls/ Waterloo community finds itself one year after the 24/7 Wall St. report. We were thrilled to fill Hawkeye's new Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center with over 75 attendees in the social services, education and correctional fields, and feature community and alumni experts from across the Cedar Valley.

This fall we celebrate the retirement of Joanne Goldman (history), after 20 years of service at UNI. We wish her safe travels as she and her husband begin a new chapter of life in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

We also welcome quite a few new faculty this academic year, including heads for the Department of History (Jennifer McNabb) and Department of Geography (Mark Welford). With their arrival comes a renewed excitement and dedication to our students, alumni and fellow faculty.

Above all, CSBS continues to lead in a variety of projects that utilize our disciplinary expertise to mentor students and address practical issues in the world, from climate change to voter engagement to diversity and inclusion. Thank you for all that you do for our continued success!
