Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Ray began his military career in 1996 when he enlisted in the Army as an armor crewman.  He graduated from Pittsburg State University in 2004 and commissioned as a Transportation Corp Officer.

His first duty station was Fort Hood, TX where he served as a platoon leader within 1-66 Armor Battalion and AS3 for 4th Support Battalion, 4ID and deploying to Central Iraq for 12 months. LTC Ray commanded C Co 58th Transportation Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, MO as well as A Co 100th Brigade Support Battalion / 75th Fires Brigade at Fort Sill, OK. Deploying to both Western Iraq and Southern Afghanistan. After leaving company command, LTC Ray served as a Small Group Leader for the Logistics Captains Career Course at Ft. Lee, VA. After completion of the Command and General Staff College, LTC Ray was assigned as a Logistical Advisor and Foreign Military Sales representative for the Royal Saudi Land Forces, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. LTC Ray was then assigned to Joint Base Lewis McCord, WA serving as the Brigade S4 for the 201st Military Intelligence Brigade and Battalion Executive Officer for the 13th Combat Service Support Battalion. Upon completion of his key and developmental assignment, LTC Ray was assigned to Rock Island Arsenal, IL where he served as the G4 Operations Chief for Army Sustainment Command. Prior to assuming duties as the Professor of Military Science at UNI, LTC Ray served as an instructor for the Army Knowledge Management Course at Fort Leavenworth, KS.

LTC Ray’s civilian education includes a BS in General Studies from Pittsburg State University and a MS in Agricultural Science from Colorado State University. His military education includes the Transportation Officer Basic and Logistics Captains Career Courses, Command and General Staff College, Support Operations Course, Security Assistance Security Cooperation Course and the Army Knowledge Management Course.

His awards and decorations include: two Bronze Stars, one Defense Meritorious Service Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals, one Joint Service Achievement Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, five Army Achievement Medals, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, NATO Service Medal and Combat Action Badge.

LTC Ray lives with his wife Cassy and their kids in Cedar Falls, IA.
