What brought you to UNI?

I started college at the University of Iowa but after my freshmen year I decided that it wasn't the right fit for me. I took a leap and looked into UNI and thought that it could be a place that would make me genuinely happy. I came to UNI because of the small class sizes, location, and it felt like a home away from home.

What did you enjoy most about attending UNI?

I've enjoyed meeting new people, working at the Learning Center for two years, and the variety of classes and professors that I've gotten the opportunity to take and work with.

How did you become interested in your major?

I took a Humanities II class my first semester at UNI with Professor Schaffner. I talked with Professor Schaffner throughout the semester and she helped me realize that you can have a career and future in history. It was the best decision I've made since attending UNI.

What were some of your favorite classes?

Introduction to the Study of History, Latin American History, Ancient Rome, and U.S Environmental History

How have you been involved outside of the classroom?

I'm Co-President of the History Club and Phi Alpha Theta, helped put on the annual Donald E. Shepardson Undergraduate Student Research Conference in 2022.

Post-graduation plans?

I'm attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study Information and Library Sciences.

How did UNI prepare you for your post-graduation plans?

The History Department gave me a great foundation for my future academic and career endeavors.

What advice would you give to high school seniors (and/or transfer students)?

Go for it! It was the best decision I've ever made for myself and I do not regret anything. Transferring was scary but I've found a community and career path that works best for me!
