Counseling students help high schoolers 'de-stress'

Posted on Friday, June 10th, 2016

The UNI Graduate Program in Counseling recently held a "Stressless Fair" at Aplington-Parkersburg High School.

The program's Mental Health practicum students began collaborating with the school counselors in 2008, when an EF5 tornado hit the area, and continued after the tragic 2009 death of a beloved coach.

The Stressless Fair included over 20 counseling students who provided an afternoon of stress-managing activities for all 250 high school students. Activities included dancing, yoga, music, animal therapy, origami, meditation, and painting.

In addition to the Stressless Fairs, many Aplington-Parkersburg High School students have participated in individual counseling sessions with the UNI grad students.
