Taylor Heath

Assistant Adjunct Professor of Counseling

Professor Heath believes the role of a counselor is pivotal in a person's life. Counseling can be a place where someone processes deep feelings and hurts, gains awareness, and evokes changes. Counseling can empower one individual along their path of healing. Teaching, on the other hand, can empower hundreds or thousands of clients’ lives, as a professor shapes the skills and conduct of dozens of future counselors every year. As she teaches, Professor Heath hopes to influence and shape new counselors to be wise and ethical, creating a ripple effect that benefits the individual counselor, their community, and their clients.

In addition to being an assistant adjunct professor at UNI, Professor Heath is a telehealth outpatient therapist with Soul’s Apothecary based in Minnesota. Previously, she was the interim associate director of clinical services and training at the UNI Counseling Center, a dual-diagnosis intensive outpatient program therapist with Christian Family Solutions in Minnesota, and an outpatient therapist with Compass Health Network in Missouri. Professor Heath has been provisionally licensed in Missouri and Minnesota and has achieved independent licensure in Minnesota and Iowa. Professor Heath has extensive experience conducting group therapy and has a special interest in co-occurring mental health and substance use issues. She has also served as a supervisor for mental health counseling practicum and internship students.

Professor Heath says she spends most of her free time with her two daughters and husband, going on walks, visiting local parks, or snuggling up for a movie. They also travel frequently to visit extended family in neighboring states and are very involved in their local faith community. In Professor Heath’s alone time, she is often reading or exercising. And she says you will almost always find her with a cup of coffee in hand, regardless of what she is doing.
