Amanda Schara
Assistant Adjunct Professor of Counseling
One of Professor Schara's passions is to develop future therapists, leaders, and organizations and she loves that she has a career that allows her to do so.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Professor Schara has counseled a diverse range of clients over the past 22 years. In addition to her role at UNI, she has worked as a therapist in inpatient and outpatient settings, worked in private practice, led teams in a substance abuse/mental health setting, and is currently the Regional Director of Behavioral Health Services at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital. In this role, Professor Schara has had the opportunity to collaborate with amazing colleagues to open clinics and revamp mental health programs, thereby increasing access to behavioral health services.
Professor Schara enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She values staying active outdoors and can often be found having fun supporting her kids in their many activities.
