Regents Award for Faculty Excellence
This award recognizes "individuals who have been deemed to have a sustained record of excellence across the spectrum of faculty endeavors (teaching, scholarship, and service) or such outstanding accomplishments in one or more of the areas as to justify their selection." The CSBS Faculty Senate may nominate up to four individuals. The deadline for nominations to the Faculty Senate is December 1, except in years when an earlier deadline is set by the Awards Committee. Nominations sent to the college senate for approval should include 1) a letter of nomination explaining why the individual is deserving of the award and 2) a current vita. Once the senate has selected the candidates from our college, the candidate will assemble a complete dossier to forward to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. The deadline for submission of materials to the Provost's Office is set annually by the Award Committee. More information
Class of 1943 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
This award recognizes "effective performance in the classroom." The CSBS Faculty Senate may nominate up to two individuals. The deadline for nominations to the Faculty Senate is generally December 1. Nominations sent to the college senate for approval should include 1) a nomination form explaining why the individual is deserving of the award, 2) the candidate's philosophy of teaching (maximum 500 words), and 3) numeric summaries of student assessments of teaching available from the Office of Institutional Research. Once the senate has selected the candidates from our college, the candidate will assemble a complete dossier to forward to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost by the February deadline. Faculty nominated for the Class of 1943 award are automatically considered for the CSBS Outstanding Teaching Award.
Ross A. Nielsen Professional Service Award
This award recognizes "a meritorious record of internal service and external service." The CSBS Faculty Senate may nominate up to two individuals. The deadline for nominations to the Faculty Senate is December 1. Nominations sent to the college senate for approval should include 1) a nomination form explaining why the individual is deserving of the award, and 2) a current vita. Once the senate has selected the candidates from our college, the candidate will assemble a complete dossier to forward to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost by the February deadline. Faculty nominated for the Nielsen award are automatically considered for the CSBS Outstanding Service Award. More information
James F. Lubker Research Award
This award recognizes "exceptional original contributions to research and scholarship, including the creative and performing arts." One nomination from each department may be made from the department head to the dean. After consulting with the College Senate, the dean will forward two names for consideration to the Graduate College. More information
College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Tenure-Track Faculty Award for Scholarship and Creative Activity
This award will be given in recognition of outstanding scholarly/creative activity achievement by a probationary faculty member in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, who is at least in his or her third year as an assistant professor in a department of the college.
Candidates must be nominated by their department head or by the PAC in a formal letter of nomination and must submit the following:
1. A complete and current CV.
2. A summary statement by the nominee of his/her scholarly/creative activity agenda, including future directions.
3. Two representative samples of their scholarly or creative work.
Materials must be submitted to the CSBS Faculty Senate by January 15. The Senate will forward its recommendation to the Dean.
University Book and Supply Outstanding Teaching Award for Untenured Faculty
Four university-wide Outstanding Teaching Awards for Untenured Faculty are available each year.
Charles Hill Faculty Research Award
This award allows non-tenured faculty the opportunity for a one-course release in the spring in order to conduct research suitable for furthering their tenure efforts at the University of Northern Iowa. Currently not being awarded.
Eligibility:
- Must be a faculty member in at least her/his third year of tenure-track position in CSBS and be in good standing within the college
- Must submit a 5- to 10-page proposal of the project
- Must have approval of department head
A complete application will include:
- A brief description of the research project or creative activity
- A timeline, including an expected completion date
- A summary of specific plans and dates to publish, present, or exhibit the results of the research/creative activity
- A complete vitae
