Brenda Bass
Brenda Bass has served as dean of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences since 2012, first as interim dean and then as the college's permanent dean beginning in 2014. A family studies scholar, Bass joined the University of Northern Iowa faculty in 1996 and served as associate dean from 2008 to 2012 before assuming the college's top leadership role. Throughout her tenure, she has championed student success, faculty excellence and hands-on learning experiences that prepare graduates to lead, serve and make meaningful contributions in their professions and communities. Under her leadership, the college has expanded opportunities for undergraduate research, internships, service learning and interdisciplinary collaboration while continuing to grow programs in health and human sciences, the humanities and civic education. As the college's current dean, Bass continues to guide the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences with a focus on innovation, student-centered learning and the enduring mission of a comprehensive public university. The college's continued evolution reflects her commitment to preparing students not only for successful careers, but also for lives of purpose and impact.
